NGO Committee on FoRB Meets with UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues

October 18, 2026 FoRB NGO Committee Bureau

An open and constructive exchange in Geneva highlighted a shared willingness to strengthen dialogue and cooperation.

On 12 October 2026, members of the Bureau of the NGO Committee on Freedom of Religion or Belief – Geneva met with Prof. Nicolas Levrat, United Nations Special Rapporteur on minority issues, and members of his team. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange information, share ideas and discuss the value of closer engagement between the Committee and his mandate.

Held in a warm and collegial atmosphere, the conversation reflected a common interest in listening to different perspectives and making communication between civil society and UN human-rights mechanisms more accessible and effective. The Bureau highlighted the diversity of the Committee’s membership and its willingness to contribute constructively through the experience and knowledge of its participating organizations.

Prof. Levrat welcomed continued engagement with the Committee, including opportunities for further exchanges with its members. The discussion offered an encouraging basis for an ongoing relationship, grounded in openness, mutual understanding and a shared commitment to the rights of persons belonging to minorities.

The Committee warmly thanks Prof. Levrat and his team for their time and welcoming approach, and looks forward to continuing this dialogue in a spirit of cooperation.
