The following statement was issued today by 17 Independent Experts of the Commission on Human Rights: "On the occasion of the United Nations Human Rights Day, the undersigned Independent Experts of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights strongly remind States of their obligations under international law to uphold human rights and fundamental freedoms in the context of the aftermath of the tragic events of 11 September 2001.
